Baby milk intake calculator
A weight-based estimate of daily milk for a healthy, full-term baby under six months, split across the number of feeds you actually do. Results are shown in both fluid ounces and millilitres.
Per day
20.7 oz
612 mL
Typical range 17.6–23.8 oz (520–704 mL)
Per feed
2.6 oz
77 mL
Across 8 feeds in 24 hours
How the estimate works
It uses the common paediatric rule of thumb: roughly 150 mL of milk per kilogram of body weight per day, which is about 2.5 fl oz per pound. That figure applies to healthy, full-term babies from about two weeks to six months, before solids contribute calories.
- Newborns in the first week take far less — a few millilitres to an ounce at a time.
- Breastfed babies self-regulate; the calculation is most useful for bottles.
- Total daily intake matters more than any single bottle.
- Once solids start at around six months, milk volume gradually tapers.
This is an estimate for planning bottles, not medical advice. Growth, wet diapers and your pediatrician's weight checks are what actually confirm a baby is eating enough.
